There are many reasons why we travel. For some, they travel to find a job, or for others, to meet someone they love. But for me, I travel because I enjoy the things and experiences it brings me - the adventure, the thrill, new environment and new culture.

So, for the year 2014, I planned to visit 12 different places in Philippines in 12 months. It has been my long time dream to explore the hidden beauty of my country, the country I've been living in for more than 2 decades.

January - Tangub City

Christmas Symbols Festival in Tangub City
The City of Tangub is the 50th City of the Philippines and it is known for being the Christmas Symbols Capital of the country. The city is located in the southern curve of the D- shaped province of Misamis Occidental in Mindanao. The best time to visit the place is during their yearly Christmas Symbols Festival which starts in the month of November and ends in the month of January. The locals ingenuity and creativity have taken the season into a whole new level by featuring giant Christmas designs, Christmas arches, and huge Christmas lanterns displayed all through out the city.

February - El Salvador

Divine Mercy Shrine in El Salvador
El Salvador is a city in Misamis Oriental province in Mindanao. The city is known as the "City of Mercy" or "City of Savior." The very known Divine Mercy Shrine is located in Divine Mercy Hills in El Salvador and is known to be the biggest statue of the Divine Mercy Christ in Asia. The place is very ideal to those people who just wanted to have some peace of environment and mind.  The holistic ambiance of the place will take you into a deep meditation with Christ. It also serves as a pilgrimage and sacred site especially for the devotees. Visitors are not allowed to wear shorts and other revealing clothing. Shrine administrators provide clothing to cover for those who weren't aware of the said shrine policy.

March - El Nido

The Beautiful Town of El Nido
El Nido is a municipality in the northern province of Palawan in the Philippines. It is about 236 km from Puerto Princesa, the capital of the province. It is best known for amazing landscape and natural grandeur. The place is composed of 45 islands which are beautifully crafted in a 250 million years old limestone. These islands are separated by the rich marine ecosystem which complemented its pristine beaches. To explore the place, numerous activities are offered by the locals, these include snorkelling, scuba-diving, kayaking, trekking, and island-hopping.
