Hoyohoy Highland Adventure Park

I've been to Mindanao many times, but every visit just gets more exciting because there are a lot of things to do there and one of them is the Hoyohoy Highland Adventure Park.

The park is located in the mountain barangays of Tangub City and it is 30 minutes to 1 hour away from the city proper. The place is an easy access to the tourists because there is a well-constructed, fine road on the way up to the place. If you did not bring a private vehicle, then you can ride a public utility motorcycle or "habal-habal" from the city proper.

We passed by a lot of Christmas-themed arches on our way to the Hoyohoy Highland Adventure Park. Our curiosity led us to asking the driver and he told us that it has been a tradition by the Tangub City local government unit that each barangay must make an arch that will represent them and then compete with all the other barangays in the city for the best themed arch.

When we were going halfway to Hoyohoy and moving uphill, the road was foggy that visibility almost reached zero. It was not a totally smooth ride however, it was all worth it when we arrived. The place can be described as the little Baguio of Mindanao.

I was chilling when I arrived in Hoyohoy Highland Adventure Park because the place was really cold and not to mention that I was only wearing shorts and cotton t-shirt when I went there. However, I was not the only victim of the chills. I think, hoyohoy is not usually cold and its temperature depends on the weather. But, it is better to be prepared. It is advisable that you bring your jacket when you go there.

The park is surrounded with pine trees. While the fog is spread out all over the highlands creating a mystifying effect in the environment just like in a fairytale. In front of the park, there was jam-packed of tourists falling in line to pay for entrance fee of thirty pesos. However, for those who want to try the skyline zip package which includes dual-course zipline, and horseback riding or wheel-buggy ride, they have to pay additional six hundred pesos.

There's also this Stone Chapel in Hoyohoy Highland Adventure Park. Its walls are made of rocks. I think, the chapel is a perfect place for intimate weddings because it is small, yet very elegant.

Guess What? Hoyohoy has the longest and tallest dual-course zipline in Asia. The view was just breathtaking as you descend from one mountain to another. While on the ride, you could see the Ozamiz City from afar and a river or stream below. The attendants were nice and friendly assisting the riders at the start and end of the course, giving you assurance that the ride is safe.

After the dual-course zipline, you can either choose horseback riding or wheel buggy ride on your way back to the reception area of Hoyohoy Highland Adventure Park. We decided to take the wheel buggy ride because we're advised by the attending Manong "oldman" that it's more challenging than the other and YES, IT REALLY WAS! It was such a bumpy ride. The road was very rough and everyone of us would just wobble around each other. You have to hold at the side of the buggy because if you won't, you might be tossed out from the ride. It was such a struggle since there were no seat-belts and we were just wearing a helmet. When we almost reached our destination, our ride got stuck up because there was a big hole on the road. So we have to walk a few meters to get there and for us to have the certificate for completing the course.

Thanks to Hoyohoy, It made my stay in Mindanao worthwhile. And you what? This adventure inspired me to take in more adventures in life. :)
